| In 1988 Sergeant James Grieser (ret.) decided to research the unique design of the Pittsburgh police badge. Sergeant Grieser collaborated with Sergeant William Burke (ret.) to record his findings. While working on this project, Sergeants Grieser and Burke realised there was a rich history of policing in Pittsburgh that should be preserved which led to their decision to begin the Pittsburgh Police Historical Association (PPHA). In 1991 the PPHA was incorporated and has grown to include current and retired officers and their family members. The members of the PPHA are united by a common interest to collect, preserve, restore, and display police artifacts and memorabilia. The ultimate goal of the association is to establish a museum to display our collection. We hope police officers, their family members, and members of the community will have a place to relive the local history of policing. In addition, the association's members hope to foster positive community relationships through educational and safety programs.
